Fred Rau is probably best known for his stint as the co-creator and long-time Senior Editor of Motorcycle Consumer News magazine, from which he retired in 2004. Before that he had been the Editor of both Wing World and Road Rider magazines, and later the Editor of the MRF (Motorcycle Rider Foundation) Report.
Fred is also the author of the book “The Motorcycle Touring Bible” from Motorbooks International, and currently publishes regular columns in both Motorcycle Consumer News and the Allstate Rider News. For nearly 20 years he has served as the Master Of Ceremonies for the Americade Touring Rally in New York. He was one of the original founders of the National Ride To Work Day and one of the first Task Force Leaders for the National Ride For Kids.
Fred was a recipient of the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) “MVP Award” as a “Most Valued Person in Motorcycling,” as well as receiving numerous awards for both his editorial writing and investigative reporting.
While still doing some freelance writing, Fred devotes most of his time these days to leading guided motorcycle tours in New Zealand during the winter months, and spending the summer touring around the USA and acting as an Ambassador for the Can-Am Spyder.
